The story of Bakarr, a resilient 12-year-old boy in Sierra Leone, truly embodies the personal commitment at the core of Feedakid Foundation. Bakarr was born muted, facing immense challenges in a world not always equipped to understand his unique needs. Raised by a single mother in difficult circumstances, his inability to communicate verbally and the lack of specialized support meant he often couldn't experience a normal childhood like other kids his age.
It was our very own founder, Santigie Sankoh, who personally discovered Bakarr's plight during a trip to Sierra Leone. Initially, Santigie's heart was moved to send gifts of playthings, aiming to bring a small spark of joy into Bakarr's life. However, his interaction with Bakarr revealed a deeper need. Since that pivotal stay, Santigie has taken Bakarr's well-being under his personal wing, tirelessly working to help him "get back to normal." This commitment goes far beyond just basic necessities; it's about advocating for his rights, seeking out pathways for his development, and restoring his potential.
Currently, Santigie Sankoh and the Feedakid Foundation are passionately seeking aid and support to send Bakarr abroad for better, more specialized medical treatment. The ultimate goal is not only to address his physical needs but also to ensure he can effectually get back to school and experience the education and social integration that every child deserves. Bakarr's journey is a powerful testament to our founder's personal dedication and the broader Feedakid ethos: that every child deserves a chance to thrive, no matter their challenges or where they are in the world.
At Feedakid Foundation, our mission is simple yet profound: to ensure no child in Nigeria goes to bed hungry. Behind every biscuit shared and every meal provided in the suburban villages of Nigeria, there's a story of commitment, compassion, and the tireless dedication of our team, led by our esteemed Program Lead, Mr. Dikwa.
The genesis of Feedakid Foundation's feeding programs emerged from a deep understanding of the subtle but pervasive food insecurity that grips many of Nigeria's suburban communities. While often overshadowed by the more visible crises in urban centers or remote rural areas, these villages face their own unique set of challenges – limited access to nutritious food, economic hardships that impact family diets, and a quiet struggle against malnutrition that often goes unnoticed by larger aid efforts.
Mr. Dikwa, our visionary Program Lead, saw this silent struggle firsthand. With years of experience working within communities and a profound empathy for the plight of vulnerable children, he recognized the critical need for direct, consistent intervention.
Under his guidance, Feedakid Foundation honed its strategy: to specifically target these often-overlooked suburban villages, bringing immediate relief and fostering long-term well-being.
Our approach is rooted in direct impact, and while our core feeding programs are dedicated to the Nigerian suburban villages, our foundational principles of compassion and direct support resonate across borders, manifesting in deeply personal initiatives.
